Cycling the beautiful Mosel River

The Beautiful Mosel

We made it to the Sunny Mosel River - land of sunshine, vineyards, and flowers.  A castle on every hilltop and a wine terrace on every river curve.   We are on the Unter (lower) Mosel this time.  In 2013 we rode most of the Mosel up and back as far as Bernkastle-Kues. in 2016  we had the vehicle so based on the Upper Mosel around Trier.  This time we found a delightful apartment in the village of Kobern-Gondorf.  It's a bit quirky (lousy checkin and internet and some other issues) but very comfortable once we finally got settled with a full kitchen, living room, with huge windows, & large bed & bath rooms PLUS an awesome sunny front terrace.  It was once the Imperial Post Office (Kaiserliches Postamt) but has been thoroughly remodeled by our German/Chinese hosts.

Cyclists EVERYWHERE ... much more so than when we were last here just a few years ago.  And nearly all on e-bikes.

We picked up our Sixt van near the Dutch Border.  The reason is because we need to leave the vehicle somewhere in the vicinity of Strasbourg, FR where we will meet with a river boat/cycling cruise.  Cross-border vehicle rentals are extremely expensive so this way we can return the vehicle in Offenburg, Germany and ride across the border when the time comes.
